I really wanted to like this book, so much in fact that after I had finished this I still gave the sequel a shot. And it's not without merit! The basic setup is cool! The plot is whatever, but this is a superhero story, the plot can absolutely be mediocre if I care enough about characters and their situations. Which I did not. Largely because everyone was a two dimensional charicature of a person. The heroes are bland and lack personality. The villains are are absolutely ridiculous and seem to only be evil for the sake of being evil. One of them seems specifically designed to say every single transphobic thing ever regardless of whether or not it makes sense for all of these views to be held by one character or for a character to say these things in these situations.
It's extremely tiring. Really. Save yourself the time.
