Prophecy: Clash of Kings by M.K. Hume

4.0

I'll start by proclaiming my love of all things Merlin. While I thought this book would be a nice brake from the Chick-Lit I was reading, somehting fun and magical; it was in fact way darker and more realistic then i could have ever imagined, and I loved ever second of it.

There was something in the way she was able to write these characters, I felt that she had me in the palm of her hand. You come to lover her main character (Merlin) and though the book is not from his point of view, you are very much in tune with his feelings and you go along with them and feel what he feels, is pain, confusion, love and anger. Its really some of the best character development i have read in a long time.

This is also very impressive considering how much you come to feel you know some of them more minor characters in such a short time, but you feel for them and you really get a sense of who they are and what they deserve.

The story its self got a little confusing, with all the names that were different people but similar in spelling. and all of the names of places were hard to keep track of (thank go she gave us a map). But is was compelling and you would be sorry to sum it up and think that you knew all there was to know. I know there were a few time i thought i had an idea of what was coming, but nope i was pleasantly surprised.
The beginning was a little slow for me. But when all was read I was very glad that there was that into in to the very early days, it helps build all of those emotional feelings of closeness and distances that were needed to move the story and the characters along.

Another thing that i really enjoyed about this book what the fact that it seemed very reasonable. That might be because I did some research about the author and learned about just how much she studied all of this and so i trust her. But the way it was gruesome at times also brought you to a sense of reality, things were not just fine and sugar coated; sometimes people who you wanted to live died, I liked that.

My Last note for now on this was that I LOVED how she included family tree's of all these people. Not only does it help make sense of what is going on but It was great as a tool for someone like me who is familiar with all these people to see how other character of the time fit in to some of these families. I just found that to be an amazing little bonus of everything.
