After Gleam's ending, I had no idea what to expect! We had Auren unconscious and possibly dying and Slade freaking out and my emotions were running high! I actually REALLY loved the way Kennedy wrote the beginning of this book. I find that, usually when something happens to the main character at the end of a book, that character immediately wakes up in the next book, but not this one! I absolutely love how we were made to wait, the feel Slade's nervousness and anxiety, I loved how we had to stir and worry about Auren's recovery and I just feel like that made this book so unique!

I loved Drollard village, I loved the home in the mountains, the timberwing feeding grounds, the caves, the SURPRISES!! I did feel like when Auren eventually did wake up, she took the self-pity a little too far but I actually really loved the plot of this book - and Slade, of course - so that made it better (Also, the spice in this one was SOMETHING ELSEšŸ„µ). I loved finding out more of Slade's truths, his origins through the flashbacks into his past. I think this book was great for his character development. I loved what Drollard means to him and that we get to meet Elore! Not to mention all my favorite characters like Lu, Ryatt and Judd are heavily in this one!

I loved the relationship development between Osrik and Rissa! We find out more about Auren's magic too. I think things really start to heat up about 70% in, when Auren is summoned to the conflux for trial. Manu's betrayal, what happened to Rissa? I was HURT. I absolutely hate Queen Kaila and Queen Isolte and I feel like they made such amazing villains in this book! The entire ending did not play out the way I thought it would and I was left utterly speechless! And of course, I hopped right into Gold!
