Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick
3.0
I didn't love this as much as I'd hoped I would, being that it's such a classic. The design of the society is fantastic and the commentary on ideas of humanity are done well. Specifically how the rarity of animals turns into an a sort of societal fetish was interweaved throughout in really interesting ways. Ultimately the characters weren't terribly compelling. Rick had some development and inner torment, but I couldn't get myself to care about him all that much. That was somewhat the same in Philip K. Dick's [b:Ubik|22590|Ubik|Philip K. I can say for sure that when I watched Blade Runner for the first time I can really remember after reading this book, the movie bored me. Gone was the mysterious religion, background commentator in Buster Friendly, and the role of animals as status symbols. Plus the 80's hair was bananas.
