Having read “The Club” by Ellery Lloyd recently (another Reese Book Club read) this book really just highlights some of the reuse of tropes and stories.

Multiple perspective event set on an island where everybody has secrets from each other and mysteries may be unveiled on the night of a big event and a murder victim that isn’t revealed until the very end?!

Literally just described both books for ya.

Was it an enjoyable read? Sure to start. But quickly it became clear that very few of the characters were likeable and actually seemed to hate each other. That sort of story gets me to tune out as “why are they putting up with each other?!”  The author notes at the end try to describe them as “characters we hate to love” but I felt none of that.

A fast paced read that had a predictable (to me) twist at the end given my other readings.

*editing to 4 star read — talking with a friend a year later about it I was reminded of all the little twists along the way. All the connections that, though unbelievable in their number, made for good twists.
