This plot is a mess and a significant regression from The Blue Lotus. Way too much happens way too fast, and too much of it goes nowhere particularly interesting. I found it impossible to get invested in the mystery. Also a pretty lousy portrayal of Indigenous people (an unfortunate pattern in Tintin stories, it seems).
Graphic: Racism
At one point, Tintin wears a hideously offensive blackface disguise. It’s brief, but I cringed hard. Treatment of Indigenous people built on shitty old stereotypes.
