Cruel Illusions by Margie Fuston

4.0

4.5 stars. This was so much fun. An immersive standalone novel about magic, vampires and a secret society of magicians that isn’t all that it seems. It was very much YA but not in a bad way. The world had such an interesting magic system and I’m such a sucker for a competition in a fantasy book. I really enjoyed the plot twists, the writing style and themes were familiar but not too predictable. I also really enjoyed the love triangle that was present but didn’t dominate the story.
