Aftan Whispers by Phil Williams

3.0

Aftan Whispers is, at its core, a book about innocence and hope meeting a dark world. Tyler, the main character, is so genuinely kind and curious that you'll wonder if it's goodness or merely naïveté that allows him to stay so hopeful. He acts as an excellent foil for Deni, a much more wary and realistic teenager. The dynamic between the two is generally humorous and enjoyable. The action was quick-moving and the tension helped move the story along. However, it definitely takes a backseat to character development.

That said, I didn't have a very firm grasp of the world, which could be confusing at times. This may be because I haven't read the earlier books, but it's something to be aware of.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
