The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox
5.0
"The Holiday Swap" by Maggie Knox takes the Parent Trap, Hallmark movies, and baking on a crazy, rollercoaster ride. Twins Charlie and Cass switch places for a week due to Charlie receiving a concussion at work. What both don't expect is how much the swap teaches them and changes their lives.
Here is my five-star breakdown:
Entertainment: star
I'm surprised that The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox (the pen name of two authors) has the same effect, making me not want to put the book down, similar to a thriller novel. Between the two sisters' completely opposite lives and love interests, you as a reader are ready to tackle another chapter. Many events take place in the story, and none of it becomes confusing or underdeveloped. It's fun getting lost in this story, along with the anticipation you feel before specific events occur.
Characters: star
For having twin sisters as the main protagonists, the authors can develop them where the similarities compliment each other while their differences shine and make them unique and likable. I fell in love with most of the characters, besides asshole Austin and toxic nice guy Brett. Regardless of how many characters are present in the novel, all of them have a distinct voice. I can picture meeting all of these characters in real life, which also helps delve the reader deeper into the story.
Plot: star
There are many plot points in this story, and the authors don't leave anything unanswered. The strongest part of this novel is the lessons the two leading ladies learn living each other's lives. We are all human beings that continue growing, and sometimes that means leaving our comfort zone. There is a lot of thought and attention to detail in The Holiday Swap.
Writing Style/Voice: star
The point of view in "The Holiday Swap" by Maggie Knox is strong. It took a minute to get used to who was who when they first swap places because characters call them the wrong name. But I believe the writing style and voice are executed well. Sentence flow is crafted beautifully throughout. This book is similar to watching a Hallmark movie, minus the cheesy back-and-forth between love interests.
The Finished Product: star
I caught one editing mistake, but I can let that slide. The book design fits perfectly with what the story is about. In my opinion, the blurb on the back of the book gives a little too much away. But many things occur in the book, so I think the authors covered their tracks.
