The Tea Planter's Wife by Dinah Jefferies

2.0

I received this book as ARC from Netgalley. While I went into the book expecting some grittiness and issues, I wasn't truly prepared for this book. I ended up putting it down for a couple of days a couple of times actually. It was so inordinately depressing. I don't expect every book I read to uplift me, but I guess I do expect some light in the dark unless the book is prefaced, "This is all about death and depression". I wasn't really a huge fan of the main character, Gwen, either. I get living in a new country with unfamiliar territory is hard. But she obviously needed to grow up very quickly and was not made to as quickly as she should have been. She came off whiny and naive. I can't say there was much I did like about this...I almost didn't finish it.
