I grew up watching the 1985 mini series but never picked up the book until now.
Oh, what I was missing out on. Such a charming and emotional read.

Anne is definitely a lively character. I did find the audiobook more enjoyable as it makes the pages of Anne’s chatter more engaging.

“Anne, you have talked even in for ten minutes by the clock” - Marilla

Feel like this is just a classic book everyone can enjoy. And I just love Matilda, Matthew & Gilbert.
I found myself smiling at the mischief and interactions throughout the book.

Also even though I knew what was coming in the end, still hit just as hard.

SpoilerThe death of sweet and quiet Matthew was just too sad. And Anne’s grief afterwards was written so well. “a person of central importance; the white majesty of death had fallen on him and set him apart as one crowned. When the calm”. “Two days afterwards they carried Matthew Cuthbert over his homestead threshold and away from the fields he had tilled and the orchards he had loved and the trees he had planted”

“Will you call me Cordelia? She said eagerly.
“Call you Cordelia! Is that your name?
“No-o-o, it’s not exactly my name, but I would love to be called Cordelia. It’s such a perfectly elegant name.”
