Zed: A Cosmic Tale by Michel Gagné

3.0

Starts out strong with this first sentence:
"Xandria is the hub of the universe - a place where economics, religion, music, culture, sports, science, and politics converge and co-exist."

Already I'm intrigued.

The art is cute - many creative and varied plants and creatures. Whimsical. Delightful. I like the idea of the story, but the execution is lacking.

It's hard to say what audience this book is intended for. There's swearing, violence, and metal band groupies with giant alien boobs. And the primary attack of an evil robot is named Titanus is to release a noxious gas from what is unmistakably a taut and detailed butthole. But the dialogue and story development are so simple, predictable, and with obvious implications excruciatingly spelled out in elementary school level detail. Although, the author does address the confusion over the target audience in the Afterword saying that when asked, he would respond that he is his own target audience. So, +1 for self-awareness and honestly.

And anyway, the art is still super cute.
