Jigsaw Youth by Tiffany Scandal

4.0

TW: sexual assault & death

Jigsaw Youth is an ugly beautiful book, chronicling trauma and hardships in the life of the main character Ella. Her story is told in bursts, clips from her life that shape her, and while there is nothing traditionally beautiful about the novel, Tiffany Scandal's refusal to be delicate with her protagonist is admirable in its own way. It's a quick read, one I finished in less than a day, but that doesn't make it an easy one. The snapshots are tough, gritty, and heartbreaking, making you root for Ella in the short time that you know her.

Honorable mention: LGBTQ+& POC representation
