DNF ~ the narrator is pretty good (though I tend to prefer two narrators when a book has perspective shifts like this one), but after more than 3 hours of listening I just can't figure out why I'm here. The questions don't leave me wanting more ~ they just leave me annoyed. Why did Jack have plastic surgery and a name change? There's no catalyst given and nothing in the story leads itself to explaining other than so Sophie, who he's never reasonably expected to have contact with again, won't recognize him. Why does Sophie think Sam (now Jack) is dead? Sophie keeps mentioning something happened to her after Sam/Jack left, but it's just continuously dangled out there without any reason. And why did Sam/Jack leave? I'm all for slowly revealing backstory ~ but this is painfully slow and repetitive. The action scenes are OK, but drown out by constant internal dialogue that sounds more like teenage hormones than adult attraction. This book has fairly low reviews compared to the rest of the series... maybe I'll just skip to book 2.
