Berserker Unbound Volume 1 by Jeff Lemire

2.0

I understand what Lemire was trying to do, and it's very "Moorlock meets new age guru", but it just fell flat for me. I had no real love for either protagonist, or either setting.

I think I would have preferred to see more fish out of water scenes, either barbarian in society or vagrant in sword and sorcery land. I also would have wanted to fall in love with either setting or either character - they just felt derivative, both of them?

The art was just okay. To be fair, I don't love classic Conan art like some do, and generally don't vibe with comic art that includes overly detailed musculature.

Ultimately, it felt like a prequel. If I had read other stories about the characters in their sword and sorcery setting, I think I would have been more invested in them here. Instead, there wasn't enough development to drive my love for them, and we never saw any character really "shine".
