Gobbelino London & a Scourge of Pleasantries by Kim M. Watt

4.0

Gobbelino London & a Scourge of Pleasantries is almost as good as it could have been. It's a great story and the writer has a very unique way of words that lets descriptions be as full as a stomach after a comfort meal without falling into the often despised flowering poetry. These descriptions pack a punch with each statement and are probably the best part of the book. The rest of the book does a really great job of stacking up to them.

Characters are wonderful and the plot is entertaining. Where this story lacks, unfortunately, is pacing, and a strong urge for more pages. The characters are great, but it would have really fleshed them out to see them more. And the pacing suffers like the occupants of the junk vehicle in the story, slamming forward at once and then struggling to get started again. Despite that, it's a truly incredible book.

Where the risk of not taking itself seriously enough could have ruined the book, the author doesn't forget that we want to care about the characters' stories. Finding out more and more of their histories made them feel much more tangible and real. I'll be back for the next one.
