Steadfast by Sarina Bowen
5.0
Bowen's dedication is "For everyone who has battles addiction. You are my real-life heroes". I'm adding "For everyone who has battled addiction and for those who love and support them"...... To me, that is the perfect caveat for Steadfast.
People think they know what an addict looks like-
I worked in this field for 8 years and know first hand the heartache, triumph, and never ending struggle of addiction. Jude's story holds no punches; it's raw and real on so many levels. Early on, my focus on Jude would switch to Sophie. This girl has lost so much and yet she continues to persevere and love him despite everything. I adored seeing the Shipleys and admire them even more after how they support and care for Jude.
This is hands down my favorite book from Bowen. Even though I knew going in it would be emotional, I wasn't prepared for how heartbreakingly beautiful it was. It's the most compelling story of redemption I've read this year. You don't have to save the world to make a significant difference.
" Everybody is sometimes uncomfortable....It's what you do about it that defines you."
