The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band by Neil Strauss

5.0

This. was. incredible.

The Dirt is well-written, compelling, and does a fantastic job at building tension and conflict. While it’s a memoir and ends long before Motley Crue officially retired from touring - ostensibly ending mid-sentence - the book feels linear and like it’s rapidly gaining speed toward a dangerous conclusion.

I won’t comment on the content within, because ultimately The Dirt is a chronicle of peoples’ lives and fuckups. Motley Crue did loads of drugs, loads of shitty things, and hurt a load of people - including themselves. But what I will say is that the content within is well-written and clearly shaped by Neil Strauss, while retaining the brutal honesty and mannerisms of each band member.

I don’t read a lot of memoirs. but I know that this is one I’ll find myself revisiting again and again.

(And yes hello, I would straight up die for Mick Mars)
