Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

4.0

Wow. This book was simultaneously fun, sad, biting, and hilarious. It's written as a collection of anecdotes from different characters, copies of documents and letters, and other forms of information. Bernadette Fox, her husband Elgin, and her daughter live in a ritzy part of Seattle where Bernadette doesn't really fit in. The moms' group at her daughter Bee's school are clique-ish and hateful, and Bernadette steers clear until a series of unfortunate events forces her to interact with her fakey neighbor and her groupies. Ultimately, the book wraps up with an ill-fated trip or two to Antarctica and has Bernadette and her family making some important changes in their lives to come closer together.
