A Dash of Trouble by Anna Meriano

5.0

“Marilla, are you just drowning your troubles and emotions in middle grade books?” Yes, absolutely, without regret, I’ve read three in the past two days and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

This was just as cute as I went in hoping! I have a soft spot for baking magic and it always makes me happy. (I’ve certainly read enough of them, considering my picky-reader younger sister went through a phase where she’d only read baking magic books, so naturally I read them all too.)

I love Leo’s strong relationship to all of her family and each of her sisters, as well as how each sister had a unique personality. I also loved Leo’s friendship with Caroline (though not quite so much as her relationship with her family).

There was literally nothing I disliked about this book. I loved everything from the Spanish to the baking magic to Leo’s voice to the pacing. I feel middle grade always has such good pacing and the middle grade I’ve been reading recently has brought back my active admiration for middle grade authors.

(I also saved all the recipes at the back, just in case…)

Cannot wait to read the next one!
