Dexter is Delicious by Jeff Lindsay

3.0

So I was actually surprised with this one. I’ve stated before that I enjoy Lindsay’s prose, and as such I’m able to rattle through these books fairly quickly.
The story is full of it’s usual plot holes and conveniences, and while my eyes roll hard I’m able to suspend my disbelief long enough.
Let me briefly address criticisms I’ve seen: this is a book about a serial killer who works for the police, drugs, sociopaths, murder, and cannibals. There are certain tropes that exist both in fact and fiction that are inescapable. And that’s all I’ll say on the matter.
The plot is typically campy and over the top as seems to be a theme with the books, and of course in that respect you want a big, spectacular finale no matter how incredulous it might be. In that respect it delivers, even if it is silly.
I did however, enjoy Samantha’s mind set, just to add a little twist into proceedings. I felt like that added much more to the story and my enjoyment.
I do like how Dexter is now facing an inner struggle more than usual, and how his motivations are starting to shift, something that is explored much better than in the show.
All in all, an improvement, and as the longest book in the series so far, that’s a Very Good Thing™️
