Five Go Adventuring Again by Enid Blyton

3.0

The five find themselves back at Kirrin Cottage for the Christmas holidays and George is not happy! Not only do the children have to have a tutor throughout the holiday, but the tutor doesn't like her and, even worse, he doesn't like Timmy her dog! After finding a mysterious note mentioning a secret passageway, the five spend their time trying to find where it is. However, there are more worrying problems as George's father's experiment is threatened when someone steals his work. Will the five be able to find the secret passageway? And, even more crucially, will they be able to uncover who has stolen George's father's work?

The Famous Five are a nostalgic classic. This book certainly brought back happy memories of reading it when I was younger. As an adult now, I can appreciate the characters so much more - especially George who is a fantastically written feisty young girl! The mystery was fairly obvious as there was only really ever one suspect. In fact, the bigger mystery was the secret passageway, which did keep me turning pages to find out whether they find it and where it leads! I found the start of the book very slow, and things didn't really get into full swing until half way through. However, from there, it was a very enjoyable read.
