I Wish Someone Were Waiting for Me Somewhere by Anna Gavalda

4.0

I am somewhat perplexed by comparisons made between Gavalda and Dorothy Parker, because this book is so, so French and Parker is so, so American. That said, I devoured this collection in an afternoon. It is like a box of fancy French chocolates with flavors like lemon verbena and lavender. Gavalda captures the essential wistfulness that, one way or another, usually emerges when a person loves another person. I will probably read it again, because the stories were somewhat effervescent. A few weeks later, I don't remember any of the characters or plots, just the very specific way this book made me feel.
