intense, thorough and passionate dissection of the cruelty and banality of british india. forster is pretty cool for this. I wasn't exactly thrilled by the story for all of it (especially the first third) and all of the characters were kind of annoying, but I think that is deliberate as none of them are martyrs, they are all real (just annoying) people.
