This is not a light read. It has graphic violence (non-gratuitous) necessary to the historical events portrayed and incorporated in the story - The Nanking massacre of 1937.
I was so surprised on how much I enjoyed reading this. Extremely well written, slow burn and unhurriedly paced. There is a heartbreaking vibe to this book and the ending is close to being what I would call as perfect. This is by no means an action packed book and it is quite emotional and complex. It was so outside of the box for me - a thriller for sure but so unique, intense and very memorable.
