Koko Be Good by Jen Wang

5.0

Jen Wang's unique story revolves around three people who are each on a journey to understand who they are. Jon is a musician who's busy preparing for a move to Peru with his much older girlfriend. He happens to run into a strange girl named Koko, a 'free spirit' that gets by on others. Through Koko's criticizing about Jon's life, they both start on the path to find happiness. While Jon tries to will himself to be confident about going to Peru, Koko tries to understand what it means to be a good person and they both come to understand that it's never as easy as it seems. Wang's ability to tell such a deep story without being moody comes through with her energetic art and wonderful panel layouts. The characters feel like they might just come to life right on the page.
