Biased by Jennifer L. Eberhardt

5.0

A really really important book, examining some of the systematic roots of implicit racial bias on many levels of society and its destructive physical and mental effects on victims. Dr Eberhardt makes light of some recent examples which have seen black people suffer from bias, from abuse of power by police forces in Oakland to the riots and rise of Unite the Right in Charlotesville in 2017, the institutionalised racial bias in the school system and the impacts of racial profiling in the street and workplace. This book offers insight into how we can make ourselves aware of implicit bias in our everyday lives. Expertly written, melding together personal accounts and scientific reasoning, Eberhardt is at the top of her field to make light of this horrific, yet troublingly everyday phenomenon, and how we can do our bit to curb it.
