3.75/5 stars. I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter was a well written coming of age story that deals with issues such as mental health, racism, and homophobia. I enjoyed the book but there was some things that could be improved, for example the gay character felt very much like a token gay best friend and not a character in his own right. I would recommend this book to somebody looking for a coming of age story and enjoyed books like Perks of being a Wallflower. TWs: Suicide, Cutting, death of sister, drug use, homophobia, abuse, and sexual assault.
