Y: The Last Man - The Deluxe Edition Book One by Brian K. Vaughan
5.0
Wow! This was refreshing.
I love comics as a medium, and have been trying out the superhero genre for the last two months, but damnnnn I missed a standalone story. I haven't read a vertigo series since Preacher and this one lived up to the hype in my book. I didn't want to put it down and have already gotten my hands on copies of 2-5.
The premise is catchy and a bit simplistic, but this creative team did it write. I like the structure and pacing as well as the twists.
Didn't expect the villains to basically be a TERF cult but damnnn that's cool. Some of this is a big too much of an angry lesbian stereotype but I like it. Rah rah girl power and all that. I like the realism of the government and infrastructure being in shambles because women have been kept away from those positions of power.
Yorick is a bit immature but not too much. He's likable enough and I think he's making some pretty understandabl choices. Hero being brainwashed is interesting and I hope he doesn't have to kill her in the end, but that'd be cool. The monkey is like a prop but a fun one. 355 is the best and I hope she and Dr Mann hook up.
Also interested in the mystery of why all the men died. Currently hoping that storyline is resolved well because I genuinely don't know what's next in this series or anything about how it ends and I look forward to this ride. I'm also probably gonna read the other stuff by this writer now.
This is just a really good first volume.
