Hostage by Skye Warren, Annika Martin

5.0

Okay wow. Hostage was an amazing follow up to Prisoner, the first book in the Criminals & Captives series. This book follows Stone, the somewhat insane and definitely damaged leader that was introduced in Prisoner. I loved his story so much. This story was different than the first in that the main female character, Brooke, is introduced to Stone at her sixteenth birthday, making the plot span over several years. I really liked how the authors set this up. Their initial contacts are by no means completely innocent, but it was really interesting to see how the characters interacted when Brooke was sixteen, and how their relationship developed over the months and years since their first meet. The timeline starts before and extends beyond the timeline of book 1. This gave us a lot of insight into why Stone acted the way he did in the first book regarding Abby and Grayson's relationship.
Watching Stone develop feelings for Brooke was amazing. He starts off as such a closed off angry man who is only out for revenge, but develops into a guy who learns to put those he cares about over his own vendetta.
Hostage is one of the rare sequels thats just as amazing as the first book in the series. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this series!!
