The Book That Wouldn't Burn by Mark Lawrence

I think calling this a "book review" is honestly going to be too generous actually because words are failing me when it comes to this book.

I freaking loved it. Lovvvvvved it. It's rocketing right to the upper echelons of my mental "favourite books ever" list.

I don't even want to say too much about it because I went in almost completely blind and I honestly recommend it. Take zero preconceived ideas and let this story unfold before you.

But if you really want something slightly more specific - there's a huge, vast, epic library. There's a spunky lil MC. There's species and wars. There's a character who lived literally his entire life inside the humongous library because his people have been trapped there for generations. There's timey wimey stuff. Portals. Friendships. Existential thoughts on the nature of life and humanity. A thing that's like the holodeck in Star Trek except it brings to life the book you take in. There's really bloody good writing. There's that moment when all these threads in the story come together and you go "oh crap 😳".

Oh and it's the first in a trilogy and I need the next one YESTERDAY okay.

Anyway, none of this will probably make sense because it's really one of those books that no blurb or summary will capture. So I'm just posting this garble anyway otherwise I'm just going to overthink how the heck to post about this book 😆

In summary: it's good shit. Read it 👏

All the stars.

Anyone else procrastinate reviews for the books they loved because you don't know how to do them justice??
