Finding My Voice: My Journey to the West Wing and the Path Forward by Valerie Jarrett

hopeful informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

3.75

Great book! I loved learning more about Ms. Jarrett’s friendship with the Obamas. I think it’s amazing that she was so shy and such an introvert, yet still ended up in such a high-profile and influential role!

Also, what we really need a book about is the success of her family. She is a 4th (or maybe 5th) generation college graduate. Everyone in her family graduated from college and they all went to prestigious universities. Think about that for a minute, considering she is in her 60s. She has a dentist and architect and attorneys and physicians throughout her family. She married a physician. I also appreciated her story about how she ended up living in Iran the first 5 years of her life.

I listened to the audiobook version and it’s not a fast-moving book so I’m not sure if I would have enjoyed the written version as much. I liked hearing the stories in her actual voice.
