The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

4.0

I’m going to try to keep this review as spoiler free as possible!
I watched the show first and decided the books might be a good read. I received them from my grandmother for my birthday back in May. All the women in my family thoroughly enjoyed the show and the Duke especially! Anyway, I saved the books for our trip to the beach. I had a feeling they would be good beach reads and now that I’ve finished the first one, I can confirm it’s a good one!
I gave the book 4 stars, though. Even though I enjoyed reading this book with the background of waves and sand in my hair, I am conflicted. As a feminist, this book troubles me. As a human being, this book troubles me. It was all going fine until Daphne got a bit too caught up in her efforts. While it all pretty much works out in the end, I still was bothered for that chapter or two.
While I enjoyed reading the book and will likely continue reading the series, it’s not something I would mark as my favorite.
