As a huge reader of Austen and a big lover of Pride and Prejudice retellings this booked ticked every box for me. The use of Austen's characters was brilliant, each character eventually became recognisable to their origins. The twists on certain characters throughout, enabling the murder plot to advance were fantastic little pieces of character writing. Each time a character was introduced I was left wondering if it was going to be a true to Austen portrayal, like with Lizzie and Darcy or with Price's twists as in the case with Collins and Charlotte.
The feminism at play throughout the novel certainly makes this even more appealing to younger readers. As well as getting the general 'enemies to lovers' plotline that Lizzie and Darcy eventually cycle through, Lizzie's own journey towards self-discovery and ultimate career goal is certainly inspiring despite the historical inaccuracies (which Price does point out in her own acknowledgements and author's note).
A fantastic retelling and a series that I certainly be looking forward to continuing.
