The Conference of the Birds by Ransom Riggs

2.0

It’s one thing to write a spin-off and a whole other to spontaneously drag it out into six arduous sequels. It’s unnerving to see how I’m progressively coming to hate one of my fondest series more and more with each passing book.

I used to have a soft spot for this because I loved the film release but this is just making me feel every level of heartache because the plot was dismally unappealing and I don’t have the heart to pulverise it in my review. I don’t mean to denigrate but a this point it’s starting to get a bit tiring.

Jacob Portman

Just saying his name leaves a sour taste in my mouth because this was round 3000 of Jacob trying to act cool with his flamboyant gestures and illustrious screaming-at-hollows-to-make-them-pay-attention. If anything I’d say his “flavour of the week” is getting to his head.

But the real question is: did anything happen??

Well, it’s going to be No and No (what, did you think I was gonna start extolling it) but you know what? No biggie. After all they only just figured out that they misinterpreted the prophecy (how else would they have a final showdown then?) in the last two pages and their greatest (ho ho) nemesis has returned from the dead. I just hope that this can go off with a bang because it has been doing so much injustice to the first book 2 stars
