Secret Origins by Michael C. Bailey

3.0

I'm on the fence of giving this a 3 or 4 star, the story is interesting, the prose is ok (with just some minor ... things). It is not a complete meld of slice-of-life and superhero (that combo is my favorite thing). The two parts feels a bit too distinct from each other and it feels a bit too naïve to really be a 4 star, OTH I want to continue reading, so it isn't a complete loss.
(And the superpowers are cheesy stereotype imaginable, Worm has spoiled me rotten).
There are a couple of things that annoy me however, it is really, I mean, really white (I nearly need sunglasses looking at it). There are some non-white representation, and as little as it is feels stereotyped (but most things are in this book) and the MC is a beautiful, blond and genius that everyone just follow.
So it stays a 3 and I hope it develops into something better in later books.
