Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle

5.0

This book was even better than Chuck Tingle’s debut horror novel. I didn’t think that was possible.

Bury Your Gays plays off the media trope of queer characters being expendable. Misha, our main character is asked to either write out the gay characters or make them heterosexual. When he refuses, his horror villains start showing up around town ready to kill him.

What I loved about this book is the layers upon layers of meaning. It’s Meta, it’s heart pounding, it’s gripping, and while all along being slow moving in a way of understanding the queer experience in not only media.

But what this book left me with remembering is that representation matters and there is room for more than one type of story. The message was loud and clear and in Tingle’s deft writing hands, the story is so good.

I will continue to read this author’s horror fiction as long as there are more books coming out. Fantastic.
