Aurora befriended an autistic boy named Frenchie. She notices little movements that he makes and really tries to understand him. Well into the book he doesn’t show up at school one day and a search begins to find him.
It’s a sweet friendship story.

Loved the poem barn and the author’s note about it. I listened to the book and didn’t notice it, but loved this when I went back and read it.

Aurora the special person:
“Trying to fit in does not work. It means folding yourself up into some shape that doesn’t feel like you.”

“First things first, Aurora: you get to be who you are. Everyone does. The trick is to see if part of you can take a little time. Watch other people, and see if you can tell how they feel. Be aware.”

“I watched the different ways he stood, and moved his hands, and fluttered his eyelids. Those things told me what his mind was up to and how he was feeling. So . . . maybe I was Frenchie’s mind reader.”
