On His Bended Knee by Shanae Johnson

3.0

CW + TW: losing a job, war, PTSD, mental health, physical injuries, amputees and amputations, healing and other emotions related to the loss of a limb.

This is a short read that I randomly picked up and I'm glad I did. It was short and sweet and full of love and gave me such a warm feeling that I'm interested in continuing with the series... if it wasn't so long.

This short story is about Dylan Banks who lost his leg during a war years ago and is now living on a ranch with other veterans that have had some sort of injury when they were enlisted. He's had many people turn their backs on him so now he wants to help make a place for others that may need it. However, there's a new hidden law that requires those living on the ranch to be married. Now everyone on the ranch has to either leave or get married fast, but how is that possible when many of them have such scars from their past or not sure if they're ready for another relationship, especially one for life?

Maggie Shaw just lost her veterinary technician job and apartment. All she has is her stuff, her car, and the many dogs she rescued. An acquaintance offers a job at the Purple Hearts Ranch and she jumps at the opportunity, but she's not so sure about the marriage of the convenience part.

If Maggie and Dykan can't connect or give each other exactly what they need, they can lose a lot more than just each other.

This was cute, I loved the story and each of the characters but, I think there could have been a little bit more to have me in love with it.
