To start, this book is steamy. The spice starts in the beginning and continues to simmer through the whole book. However the story does not rely on that and is a well written story that had me feeling all kinds of ways. The big twist is predictable if you are paying attention to the clues, but not in a boring way, you still get to revel in the reveal. The characters are likeable, but not without flaws. The portrayal of grief and being pushed to a breaking point by it is one of the best portrayals I've seen from a "chosen maiden" trope. Poppy is special and strong, but also very human. A fantastic dark romance and I'll be reading the next one.
