Our Last Goodbye by Shirley Dickson

emotional hopeful sad medium-paced

On a foggy night in 1943, May Robinson loses her mother in an accident. Wanting to make her proud, May applies to be a nurse at the local hospital where she meets a handsome porter, Richard. May is hiding secrets, but Richard isn't - everyone there knows that he's a conscientious objector and treats him as such.

This was such a good book! Poor May just couldn't seem to catch a break - talk about kicking someone when they're down! There were a few times when I just wanted to shake some sense into her, but she ended up becoming a strong character.  And Richard - he was such a good character. The way he was treated for his beliefs made my heart ache!
