Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

Nothing I disliked about the book is related to the controversy surrounding it or the immense hate the author has received over social media. TBH, given how unkind reviewers have been to her, I was hoping to really like the book and root for her to keep writing and not give two fucks about the haters.
Sadly, I simply couldn't like the book. It has almost the same hackneyed faults that most YA books seem to have these days and the same tropes that authors think make for a good fantasy read.
What I liked? The plot had potential. The magic system was promising. The action wasn't too bad. But the rest was slow, messy and, well, very predictable. It took me so long to finish what should have been a short read.
I didn't root for any of the characters - most were forgettable, and the main were so very unlikeable. The chemistry, as usual, seemed forced. The lore needed more chapters. And both Ana and Ramson needed some more depth. I am so displeased with the start of my YA fantasy voyage this year.
I will not be continuing this series
