The MC Maggie decides to use a school project to sort her feelings for 3 of her friends, and it goes about as well as you can expect. The story is set in a Texas border town where queer people seem to be relatively safe. There are some discussions of police violence, but they are barely mentioned. I understand not wanting to get bogged down in the heartbreaking reality of policing in brown communities, but it almost felt like the situation is kind of thrown in to serve a very small plot point. The book was predictable, but I enjoyed watching Maggie sort through her feelings in real time and take responsibility for her own actions. The friends are also willing to own up to their part, and they are so supportive. Her family is great as well. I would love to see a follow up on her sister Alyssa or Jordan just to see more of what's going on in everyone's life.
