I was so pleasantly surprised by how complex and entertaining this book was. It’s a Jekyll and Hyde retelling, but really only in the loosest sense. In this version, Hyde is a good, yet troubled detective investigating a series of grisly murders in Victorian Edinburgh. Like the classic, the story of course deals with the theme of human duality, but in a new way that will keep readers guessing. My only complaint and what's preventing from me giving 5 stars is the slow start and super rushed ending. I actually had to read the ending twice to make sense of it. But overall, I seriously enjoyed this historical police procedural.
