Vines by Brynne Asher

This book felt weirdly long to me and I’m not sure why, since it’s only 316 KU pages.

The premise is interesting and surprisingly single: a former assassin moves to a small town in Virginia, his only close by neighbor is a woman who owns a vineyard.

While this book’s plot comes across as potentially heavy (there’s a decades old treason plot, investigating the death of a parent, a school for assassins in the works, the KGB) it never bogs down the books plot or romance.

Crew is 100% an alpha and hot AF. Addy didn’t stand out on her own as a heroine (as in, I don’t feel like I know HER), but I liked her in relation to all the side characters. She’s smart and snappy, a good boss and friend. Her rambling and silliness bounced well off of Crew.

I didn’t find this book too steamy though there’s definitely explicit sex in it. I definitely want to read book 2 because I’m curious about Grady (hero of book 2) but I don’t think this is a series I’ll be binging. (Watch me eat my words… we’ll see.)
