3.0

I would have rated this higher if it was based on a true story.  As it stands the story has too many coincidences, too many bad things happening to the same people or their descendants, to be believable.  That would've been believable if Afghanistan had a population of about 3 people, but not otherwise.

I was also annoyed at how long it took Amir to consider adopting the child.  It was the easiest thing to happen, given how all the chips were set, and yet he didn't get it until he had no choice.

I listened to this on audio and that helped move things along faster.  War is terrible.  Life isn't fair.  Karma isn't real (apparently prayer is). Humanity sucks and rape is one of the easiest forms of torture known to men.  Also, flying a kite is a bloody sport.

3/5 - Good for what it is.
