Lady Susan by Jane Austen
3.0
This book kept my attention but didn't leave me time or space to have any sympathy for any of the characters. It was interesting for the entire book to be a series of letters between many of the characters, but that format also makes it difficult to add any backstory or details that the characters don't include in letters to whomever they're writing to.
it was obvious that lady Susan is a heartless, self-centered woman who flirts with countless men and has no love for her daughter. She has only one friend in the world and even she has to stop all communications with her in the end.
I was expecting a twist at the end, or perhaps more tragedy. There wasn't. Maybe Jane Austen meant to leave things unresolved. I was glad that Frederica was able to live with her aunt and uncle who loved her. That's really the only part of the book that was enjoyable or satisfying.
I didn't hate the book but didn't love it either.
