Who is Maud Dixon? by Alexandra Andrews

3.5

This was, for me, mostly pretty predictable, but I still really enjoyed the ride. There's a great slow-burn build of tension and unease, culminating in an absolutely wild sequence of events, and I felt truly uncomfortable and unsettled throughout. I particularly loved the parts set in Morocco, as there was just such a wonderfully vivid sense of place and that really heightened things for me. The main characters are for the most part thoroughly unlikeable, but are definitely very well-crafted. And, even though I worked out most of what was going to happen, I still really appreciated the commentary on identity, power, and the publishing industry, and overall had an enjoyable reading experience.
