Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, by Matthew Woodring Stover

3.0

I’ll start with the battle cry of bibliophiles everywhere: the book is way better than the movie! Surprisingly, in this case, since it’s a novelization and not the other way around. The book has satisfying emotional arcs and characters who act like human beings, and, importantly, it focuses on the “why” rather than the “what” of the events that occur. The author clearly is limited by the existing dialogue in some parts, and the disparity between the complex inner lives of the characters and what they say is noticeable in a few scenes (the final battle scene being the most egregious example). But overall, it’s an engrossing read: I read it when I should have been sleeping more than once. In the world of Star Wars novels (where I apparently live now; who is this person I’ve become), it’s an easy 4.5/5. A fun read for sure.
