Divergent by Veronica Roth

This is a good example of a conventional YA novel. The young girl who is strong and pretty even though she doesn't know it, the boy who guides her in many ways and becomes her love interest, the shadowy talks in the night that hint at bigger problems, etc.

I liked it, but I think The Hunger Games did everything this book did and did them better. There wasn't enough about the world to catch my interest and a little too much on the "My body felt like electricity every time he touched my hand" type of romance. This is probably appealing to teenagers but to me it felt like...well, yeah, teenagers.

Anyway, I liked the training and the shift from that to a plot. Overall, it was a fast and enjoyable read but nothing that I would consider groundbreaking in the way of YA literature or writing in general.
